Inorganic Zinc Silicate Primer | KF-IM100 | Kexin New Materials

inorganic zinc silicate primers Series · Complete application process flow

Product No.: KF-IM100 Reference standards: ISO 12944-7/8 | SSPC PA1 | GB/T 28699 Version: V2.0 Date: 2026-06-21
I. Pre-application preparation — Substrate inspection and treatment

1Substrate inspection and preparation standard

Preparation standard:ISO 8501-1 Sa 2.5 (very thorough blast cleaning)

Roughness requirement:Rz 40-75μm(ISO 8503-1)

Cleanliness requirement:Post-blast surface cleanliness Salt grade 2 (ISO 8502-3), no oil/grease or dust

Application timing:Apply primer within 4 h of blasting to prevent flash rust

Edge and corner treatment:Grind free edges to a rounded radius of R≥2 mm

Weld seam treatment:Remove slag and spatter from welds; stripe-coat the welds

2Paint preparation and mixing

Mixing method:Mix at low speed 300–500 rpm for 3–5 min until homogeneous

Mixing ratio:Weigh precisely according to the mix ratio on the product label

Curing:After mixing, let the blend age for 15–30 min at 23°C before use

Pot life:Pot life 4–8 h at 23°C after mixing; discard beyond this window

3Environmental condition check

Application temperature:5-40°C (substrate temperature ≥ dew point +3°C)

Relative humidity:Relative humidity ≤85%

Ventilation requirements:密闭空间强制Ventilation

Weather requirements:Avoid rain / snow / strong wind / direct sun when applying outdoors

II. Application procedure — Selection of coating method
Application methodProcess parametersApplicable scenarios
Airless spray (recommended) nozzle 0.38-0.53 mm, pressure 15-25 MPa Large-area steel structures, storage tanks and pipework
Conventional air spray Nozzle 1.5-2.0mm,Pressure 0.3-0.5MPa Small/medium workpieces and equipment housings
Brush / roller application — Localised touch-up, weld stripe-coating, corners and edges
III. Recoat Interval and Curing

Minimum overcoating interval:Recoat after touch-dry (about 4–6 h at 23°C)

Maximum overcoating interval:If recoat exceeds 7 days, abrade the surface (low-pressure sweep blast 0.2–0.3 MPa, non-metallic abrasive)

⚠ Risk of overcoating beyond the time limit:When the maximum overcoating interval is exceeded, intercoat adhesion will drop significantly; the surface must be sweep-blasted (low pressure 0.2-0.3 MPa, non-metallic abrasive) to create mechanical anchor roughness, otherwise the coating will delaminate.

Curing conditions:Self-cures at 23°C, fully cures in 7 days. Low temperatures (<5°C) require a low-temperature curing agent.

4. Safety and environmental requirements
⚠ PPE requirements: Respirator (A2P2 filter cartridge) + goggles + nitrile gloves + anti-static workwear + safety shoes
⚠ No open flames, welding, cutting or other spark-producing work
⚠ Use explosion-proof electrical equipment in the work area
⚠ Dispose of waste paint and containers according to HW12 category of the National Hazardous Waste List
5. Quality inspection and acceptance criteria
